Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh

The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh is a 29 bed critical care unit, providing intensive care and high dependency care to a variety of patients. Tertiary care in vascular surgery, major upper GI surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, transplant surgery, major spinal surgery and complex obstetric care is offered within this unit, in addition to a general adult critical care medical and surgical population.

Meet at 9 a.m. on the first morning in the Data Analysis Room, Ward 118.  If lost or no one comes to get you by 9.15, come to Doctors’ room where handover will just have finished.

UNIT INFORMATION 

Western General Hospital

The Western General Hospital is a 16 bedded critical care unit, providing mixed intensive care and high dependency care to a variety of patients. Tertiary services include neurosurgery (until August 2020), oncology and haematology, urology and major colorectal surgery. The unit also hosts the home ventilation service, which cares for patients who require long term non-invasive ventilation and invasive ventilation.

Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy

Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy is a 10 bedded critical care unit, providing intensive care services to a wide variety of general medical and surgical intensive care patients. In addition, there is a separate surgical high dependency unit staffed during daytime hours by the critical care team, and a medical high dependency unit, which the critical care team have significant input to.
